Premier League: Cardiff lose to Newcastle and Fulham lose to Stoke and are relegated

eNewsletter
Cardiff City may have thrown themselves a lifeline by winning their last away game at Southampton. But they couldn't repeat the act against out of form Newcastle United.

Despite threats of a fans protest, Newcastle played well from the off. This despite having lost their previous six games the Toon took the lead through Shola Ameobi's first-half header.

A sizeable number of Magpies fans walked out after 69 minutes in protest at the running of the club but it didn't alter things on the pitch.

They missed a brief rally from Cardiff before late goals from Loic Remy and Steven Taylor sealed their fate.

Cardiff return to the Championship after just one season.

Fulham have had a much longer stint in the top flight having come up in 2001 with Bolton and Blackburn. But they were woeful at Stoke losing 4-1 - a result that sees them go down after Sunderland beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Black Cats have followed up a famous win at Chelsea and a draw at manchester City in the past four weeks to help claw their way out of the bottom three.

All the pressure is now on Norwich who face two very hard games in Chelsea away on Sunday and Arsenal at home. They need four points from those two fixtures to be sure of staying up assuming Sunderland don't get anything from their last two games. It looks bad for the Canaries at the moment.
