Current and former players and staff associated with Preston North End will carry Sir Tom Finney’s coffin into the Preston Minster Church on Thursday.
Four of the men chosen are currently at the club, with current North End manager Simon Grayson and goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly from the backroom staff, with Club captain John Welsh and top scorer Joe Garner, who has been a Preston fan all his life, from the playing squad.
The other two bearers are two former club captains, the first being current Fleetwood manager Graeme Alexander, who made over 400 appearances in two spells at the club, the other Ian Bryson, who made 151 appearances for North End from 1993-97.
In a brief statement the club said, "The family of Sir Tom Finney asked Preston North End to choose the six men and the Club feels proud and privileged to have such an honour bestowed on them."
Manager Simon Grayson said: “For me it is a huge honour and a privilege to be asked to be a pall bearer and it is something that I will cherish for the rest of my life."
“Just to be at the church would have been something to behold, but to be able to play that role is something which truly makes me proud to be the manager of this great Club.”
The funeral, which will include a procession through the city, will take place on Thursday.
