Premier League: Manchester United plan £200 million spree

eNewsletter
Manchester United look set to spend big this summer and manager David Moyes and his scouting team have scoured Euroipe in the past few months.

According to reports in the Daily Mirror Moyes will be handed up to £200million to spend on strengthening his squad this summer after a wretched first season in charge at Old Trafford.

Moyes himself flew to Lisbon on Wednesday to observe the Portuguese Classico between Benfica and Porto.

His attendance at the semi-final of the Taca de Portugal offered an opportunity to personally assess several players being monitored by United's scouting department.

Porto's leading scorer Jackson Martinez, their France international centre back Eliquiam Mangala and Benfica central defender Ezequiel Garay have all been included on United's long list of potential reinforcements for next season.

All three featured in the second-leg tie, which Benfica won 3-1, as the Scot watched from an Estadio da Luz box

Moyes has also  been handed a major boost in his pursuit of £30million-rated Germany star Marco Reus.

Manchester United boss Moyes has been tracking the Borussia Dortmund midfielder all season and had him watched again last weekend.

Reus is one of his top targets and the 24-year-old could be involved in a swap deal that sees Shinji Kagawa go the other way.

Reus, who has scored 19 goals in 35 appearances this season, is considered one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe and has also attracted interest from Real Madrid.

He shone once again in front of United scouts last weekend by scoring one and setting up another in Dortmund's surprise 3-0 win over big rivals Bayern, who have already been crowned German champions.

United are prepared to make Reus one of their highest-paid players on around £200,000-a-week to lure him from the Bundesliga to the Premier League.

Moyes is also closing in on a deal to sign Southampton's rising England star Luke Shaw as a replacement for long-term left-back Patrice Evra, who is set to leave at the end of this season.

Another United player set to leave at the end of this season, Old Trafford legend Ryan Giggs, has just five games left to continue his remarkable run of having scored in all 21 Premier League seasons.
