World Cup: England v Italy game to start earlier but Roy Hodgson not impressed

eNewsletter
England’s tough World Cup group has been made even more challenging thanks to broadcasters ITV.

The kick-off time for England’s opener against Italy, which was originally due to take place at 9pm local time, has been moved back three hours to suit television companies, including those in Italy, desperate to gain high viewing figures.

The alteration could cause problems for England players, with humidity in Manaus – located in the heart of the Amazon – soaring up to 99 per cent, while daytime temperatures could hit 30 degrees Celsius.

And boss Roy Hodgson yesterday made it clear he would prefer the kick-off to remain at 9pm.

‘At the moment the kick-off time is at 9pm and that’s what I’m working on,’ he said.
