England get no luck with World Cup draw

Roy Hodgson was widely reported to suggest England might be worth a bet for next year's World Cup if you had a spare tenner. Given Friday's Wolrd Cup draw there may be few who are convinced.

England have been drawn in a very difficult looking Group D, alongside Uraguay, Italy and Costa Rica.

Given that no European side has ever won the World Cup in South or Central America and the task of getting to the finals looks an up hill one.

On top of that England have to fly over 2,500 miles from their Rio base for the game against Italy in Manaus. The capital of the state of Amazonas, Manaus is the furthest north of the host cities.

The climate is very difficult. Tropical heat with tropical storms. Highs are a toasty 30C with a 40% chance of thunderstorms in June, with humidity up to 80%. Expect to see plenty of drinks breaks.

Betting expert, Joe Ross from www.footyinsider.co.uk told us:' If England were hoping to avoid the likes of Italy and France, they will be disappointed. With former winners Italy and Uraguay in the group this will be a very tough assignment. We'd rather lay England than back them, that's for sure. Expect the price for outright to drift and we would chalk England up as 3rd favourites to win the group itself.'
