Port Vale miss out on dream tie with Stoke City

eNewsletter
Football can be a cruel game sometimes, and whilst Wallsall fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of a Capital One Cup tie with Premier League Stoke, it would have been an even bigger event for Port Vale.

Vale, unluckily for them, were dumped out of the competition with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Wallsall on Tuesday. The result came on the back of some strong penalty claims for Vale that could have seen things end differently.

Vale's Commercial Director John Booth said:

'Had Vale been playing at the Britannia Stadium it would have been a sell-out I'm sure. Stoke and Vale haven't met for many seasons and the demand for tickets from Vale fans would have been huge. The share of a large gate would have also been very welcome. But it wasn't to be and we wish Wallsall all the luck in their efforts to pull off a shock.'
