The Football League has yet to renew the Npower’s sponsorship which could end next year as discussions with potential replacements begin.
The exclusivity period has ended and the governing body for the Championship, League 1 and League 2 tournaments can now speak to potential sponsors.
The Football League is looking to meet international brands to exploit growing overseas interest. Under Commercial boss Richard Heaselgrave the league has focused on growing the international appeal signing US financial firm Capital One as replacement of Carling as the title sponsor in June of the League Cup.
Npower took over from Coca-Cola as the League’s title sponsor at the beginning of the 2010/11 season in a £7m a-year deal. The energy supplier used the partnership to raise the profile of the brand through grassroots initiatives.
