The European Champions Chelsea have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao joining another ex-Atletico man in Fernando Torres in a deal reported to be worth £46m.
Chelsea are four points clear in the Premier League as they look to break the dominance of the Manchester clubs.
The Barclays Premier League leaders splashed around £60m in the summer on the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Victor Moses but the Colombian international has long been on the Blue's radar and Roman Abramovich has told Chelsea to press ahead and sign him in January according to the Daily Mail.
Falcao replaced Sergio Aguero when he joined Manchester City and although selling him will irritate supporters it would ease financial pressures on the La Liga side.
With Thibaut Courtois on loan for a year from Chelsea an extension of that would certainly help Chelsea's cause.
Abramovich sees the Colombia striker as the next world superstar after Falcao netted a hat-trick as Atletico beat Chelsea in this year's Super Cup adding to Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo frustration by his failure to sign a centre forward in the summer.
Chelsea are also monitoring the Theo Walcott’s situation at Arsenal. Walcott, who was injured in the opening encounter at Wembley on Friday against San Marino can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January and is also interesting Liverpool and Manchester City.
