Port Vale could face Bristol Rovers tonight with their new owners in attendance as deal is finalised today

Port Vale face Bristol Rovers tonight in a league clash, but the news that the club should by the start of the match officially have two new owners is what will be the talk of the terraces.

Paul Wildes and Norman Smurthwaite have deposited the full amount of the money for the deal to their lawyers, who will in turn hand it over to the administrator's own lawyers. Once this is done, the 'golden share' which gives them control will be handed over.

Smurthwaite, speaking yesterday,  said "We've now had verbal confirmation from the Football League, who have given us the green light as far as their concerned."

"They told me they'd be in a position to proceed within our time scale tomorrow, as our exclusivity on the deal runs out the day after."

The Football League have refused to comment until a deal is finalised, and there has been no word from the administrator, but the prospective new owners seem confident that the deal will be done in time for them to watch the match this evening.
