Football News 24/7
Chief photographer for Action Images, John Sibley won the “Sports Picture of the Year” category at the Sports Journalists' Association (SJA) British Sports Journalism Awards on Monday night.

The winning image is a shot of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes stretching in an attempt to prevent the ball from crossing the goal line during the Premier League match with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last April.

Action Images, the specialist sports arm of Reuters, combines its market-leading skills in sports photography with Reuters' production of pictures, text and graphics into a compelling multimedia offering for the media, rights holders, sponsors, and creative agencies.

The SJA is an association for British-based professional sports journalists, whether writers or photographers, editors, cartoonists or broadcasters. The president is the writer and broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson, while the SJA committee comprises a selection of national newspaper sports editors, tabloid and broadsheet, past and present, top sports photographers, and well-known correspondents in print, broadcasting and online.
