Manchester City on buying spree

Manchester City after winning the Premier League last season are looking to push on both domestically and in the Champions League.

Roberto Mancini will need strengthen his squad and with so much money seemingly available in the blue half of Manchester, a number of the big name players are expected to join the champions this summer.

Striker Karim Benzema is reported to be on Manchester City's radar. The Real Madrid star scored 32 goals in all competitions and was key to the club winning La Liga. Jose Mourinho is highly unlikely to agree to anything but a huge fee. However, with the futures of Dzeko, Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli in doubt this summer City are in the market for a big name.

Another Real Madrid striker is Gonzalo Higuain, potentially the hottest property in Europe this summer. He scored 22 goals from 18 starts in the Primera Division and yet the Spanish club are apparently keen to sell him. Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao is also thought to being watched. The Colombian goal machine moved from Porto to Madrid last summer and hit 25 goals in 36 appearances for the club. Chelsea were thought to be City's biggest rivals in the chase for the striker however the Blues have switched their sights to Porto's Hulk for the time being.

Kolo Toure was inspirational in winning the title but with rumours he is unsettled City are reported to be looking at Ezequiel Lavezzi, he is also attracting attention from Inter Milan and French big-spenders Paris St. Germain but the Blues are thought to be tracking the Argentinean attacking midfield maestro. Lavezzi, much like his Napoli counterpart Cavani, made his mark on English football in his side's tie with Chelsea in the Champions League when the diminutive midfielder scored twice.

Gaston Ramirez has attracted a lot of interest so far this summer with Liverpool, Juventus and City all reportedly chasing him. A bid of £20m is said to be required for the player's signature, but if it comes to a bidding war City have more than enough financial clout to come out on top. The midfielder scored eight goals in 33 games last season in the league demonstrating a threat in front of goal.

With speculation hovering around the futures of Nigel de Jong, Roberto Mancini is reportedly preparing a £25m offer for Athletico Bilbao's Javi Martinez. The Spaniard who can play as a holding midfielder or a centre-back has been attracting attention from many top European clubs.

Another name being mentioned around the City set up is Stefan Radu. The 25-year-old Romanian has been in impressive form for Lazio.

Joe Hart, the ex Shrewsbury goalkeeper, has been a revelation for City and England this season and City are thought to looking at Birmingham's Jack Butland as cover. The 19-year-old goalkeeper was promoted to England's squad in Ukraine and Poland when third choice keeper Paul Ruddy sustained an injury. After joining up with the squad he impressed the England coaching staff and first choice stopper Hart has allegedly urged City to try to sign him.
