Liverpool boss to join West Brom in next 24 hours

Ex Liverpool boss Steve Clarke is thought will be appointed head coach at West Bromwich Albion within the next 24 hours.

The 48-year-old left his role at Liverpool on Wednesday, where he was assistant manager before Kenny Dalglish's dismissal in May.

The former Chelsea assistant to Jose Mourinho has emerged as the No 1 choice for the West Brom job.

Other contenders were Birmingham's Chris Hughton, who has joined Norwich,  Claudio Ranieri, Ray Wilkins and German Ralf Rangnick.

He joined Dalglish at Liverpool in January 2011, after coaching spells at Newcastle, Chelsea and West Ham.
