Rathbone has an illustrious career as player for Birmingham and Blackburn and more laterly as a top physio for Preston, Everton and now England U17s. His book - The Smell of Football is a best seller and his introduction to the Football Trade Directory's Industry Open Day at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium today was top drawer. The delegates were enthralled by his tales of despiar and elation, the fear factor in football, and the need to be above all a person of moral stature - hard to find in the game these days.
Over 150 delegates were able to mix with a range of industry suppliers and a series of talks on latest football developments proved popular.
FTD Director, John Booth said afterwards:
'Thanks to Mick (Rathbone) for setting a great tone for the day. With a large contingent of clubs represented and over 100 businesses and exhibitors we think everyone found the day useful.
'The staff at the Etihad were excellent and the ground tours were well received - even though most of those on them were hardened football professionals. Thanks to the club and Lindley Venue Catering for a fabulous day.
'Watch out for our next event which will be in the south in October. Details to follow soon.'
