Blackburn appoint Colin Hendry to push for promotion

The defensive frailties of Blackburn Rovers last season were a punters utopia in the goal market as the team consistently were unable to keep clean sheets. Relegation followed and fans uproar at the owners and manager Steve Keen are history.

New supremo Derek Shaw will need to bring the fans back to Ewood and Keen's appointment of club hero Colin Hendry is a major coup both on the field for defensive improvement and to get fans onside.

Hendry has been appointed as first-team coach and his major task is to reduce the 78 goals conceded last season, with only bottom club Wolves having a poorer record in the division.

Ex-Scotland captain Hendry who won the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1995 commenting on the appointment said

"There's a theme from the manager that, defensively, we can improve,"

"Hopefully that will develop this season."

"I'm very excited for myself and my family," continued Hendry.

"It's a shot in the arm for me. I'm looking forward to it.
