Pressure on Liverpool to find goalscorer as window closes

There are always last minute hitches in the transfer window and many deals will be done in the last hour. News from the Liverpool camp that they are prepared to offload misfiring Andy Carroll whose goal tally equates to over £5m a goal has said he has no desire to leave Liverpool after the club tried to exchange him for Manchester City's Carlos Tevez only a year after his £35m arrival from Newcastle United.

Liverpool need goals and while a fit again Steven Gerrard will start to chip in it was reported last week that the Reds were believed to be in talks to sign attacking midfielder Esteban Granero, 24, from Real Madrid on loan.

The Reds have denied claims from Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic’s father that they are interested in signing the 26-year-old but local rivals Everton may be the beneficiary as the striker is understood to want a move away from Ibrox.

Kenny Dalglish may still come up with a surprise or two and news from across the city may give a change of heart and  although Liverpool are coming off a memorable week by defeating both Manchester United and Manchester City, many fans will still view the Red’s season as some what of a disappointment if they fail to gain Champions League football.
