Merseyside club announce major stadium sponsorship with bus company

Football News 24/7
Bus operator Arriva  will continue to sponsor the stadium at Merseyside based Marine (who play in the Evostik Northern Premier League) until 2015.

The agreement is now one of the longest sponsorship deals for stadium naming rights in non-league football. Formerly Rossett Park since 1903, Marine’s football ground has been known as the Arriva Stadium since 2006 and this will now continue until the summer of 2015.

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said, “Marine continues to be actively involved with the community and works with local schools, businesses, charities and the media to increase profile on Merseyside and beyond. Initiatives with Jospice, KitAid and MS Trust are just some examples of the schemes that helps create publicity and interest in our football club and I am sure that this helped Arriva in making the decision to continue to sponsor the name of our stadium in addition to our football ambitions and the way we operate.

''I am very proud of this long standing stadium sponsorship with Arriva and I am pleased that I am now able with them to make this exciting announcement”

Howard Farrall, Managing Director for Arriva Merseyside, said:, “We’re proud to be able to put something back into the community we serve and supporting local community football clubs such as Marine FC is a vital part of that. The club itself is going from strength to strength and the work they do in the local area and for charity is fantastic. We look forward to working with Marine throughout the coming months and fully support the team who call the Arriva Stadium home.”

League 2 side Accrington Stanley also had their stadium named after a bus operator - when it was known as the Fraser Eagle Stadium when sponsored by one of the largest coach hire companies in the UK. Fraser Eagle went bust though in 2009.

Elsewhere in the Evostik League, Romulus announced a new addition to their board along with a new kit sponsor last week.

Rio Asphalt will sponsor the kit for the remainder of the season while Andy Wilson, who works at Rio and is involved as Youth Secretary with Romulus, has joined the club’s executive committee.
