Sir Alex Ferguson will not be held to ransom over any player as he is an expert at determining the true value of a player in a market that has been artificially inflated by the top clubs.
Ferguson has his valuation and the "Boss" has only done two deals so far at Old Trafford – the talented Nick Powell brought in from Crewe and Japanese superstar Kagawa. Players from the Far East have been a bit hit and miss in the Premier League but Kagawa, having already shone in the Bundesliga, could buck the trend.
Kagawa joins the Premier League title hopefuls with two German titles in two seasons and 29 goals in all competitions
It’s not very often Sir Alex admits to regretting something, but the United manager didn’t hide his sadness at losing the ‘ultimate professional’ Park to QPR. In seven years at United, Park was a quiet but effective constant in the midfield, and was never fazed by the biggest of stages both in the Premier and European League. A player who never let the boss down and for Mark Hughes a great coup.
At £2m he could turn out to be the best buy of the summer.
It is not known whether Sir Alex has made an improved offer for Van Persie, but he did say he did not know whether United's pursuit of Van Persie would be successful.
It is understood Arsenal are reluctant to enter into formal negotiations until a bid in excess £20m and this could go to the wire if a deal happens.
