The SPL kicks-off - but who cares?

Football News 24/7
A crowd of over 48,000 saw Celtic open the defence of their SPL crown with a hard fought 1-0 win over Aberdeen at Celtic Park. The early kick-off may have attracted a healthy attendance of die-hards but coverage of the opening day fixtures is over shadowed by the Olympics and he exploits of Team GB.

Given the summer Scottish football has endured perhaps a low key start to the season is just what is needed. If the authorities were worried the missing Rangers would reduce the interest across the City they will be heartened by such a good crowd on the opening day.

Celtic needed a 79th minute Kris Commons goal after a howler by Aberdeen's Jamie Langfield to secure the three points and get their season off to a winning start.

Other than those supporters of the clubs themselves, neutral interest in the SPL has to be lower without Rangers. Celtic are as short as 1/20 to win the title.

Rangers, meanwhile must wait until Augist 11th to kick-start their climb back to the top with an away fixture at Peterhead. The Gers are a paltry 12/5 with Ladbrokes to win their next FOUR titles!
