Liverpool transfer update as Friday deadline day approaches

Liverpool new signing Nuri Sahin believes his new club can finish in the top four in the Premier League this season.

Defensive frailties though will have to be a thing of the past if Sahin's dream is to be realised after two poor goals were conceded against Manchester City on Sunday that gifted the Champions a point.

Liverpool when challenging for a top four finish had a midfield that protected the back four and gave Steven Gerrard the opportunity to score some important goals. Gone are Xabi Alonso, who recommended to Sahin that Liverpool was the best club for his development and Javier Mascherano who would give creditability to a top four finish.

You have to feel that Liverpool are WIP and Joe Allen is a gem for the future.

The Turkish midfielder has may have joined Brendan Rodgers's side on a season-long loan on Saturday but you have to feel that Andy Carroll will be on the way out as a realistic bid approaching £20m would satisfy the owners if a cheaper option became available.

England International Carroll will not want to sit on the bench and with the Reds linked with Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge his days could be numbered.

Rodgers is thought also to be considering selling Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing to get the proposed £15m deal though.
