With talk of Aston Villa owner Randy Learner looking to sell his National Football League (NFL) franchise, Cleveland Browns, concerns were quickly allayed by chief executive Paul Faulkner that the owner is still committed to the club.
Last Friday, Learner confirmed that he is looking to sell the NFL team to Tennessee businessman Jimmy Haslam, fuelling speculation that Villa could be next.
Villa was bought by Learner in 2006 and has invested about £10 million on new players for incoming boss Paul Lambert this summer, to improve on 16th place in the Premier League last season.
“The big point that people sometimes forget is that he inherited Cleveland – he bought Villa. Any rumours that he could be thinking about getting out or losing interest is nonsense.” said Faulkner.
