With the business end of the season seeing Manchester United as firm favourites for the Premier League despite Manchester City's Joe Hart believing City can still win the league, one league United has already won is the Forbes’ annual rankings of the world’s most valuable football club.
Manchester United has retained its crown but Real Madrid is closing the gap to the No.1 spot.
Forbes valued the Manchester club at US $2.235b, a 20% increase on last year. Manchester United have top of the league each year since 2004 and the global fan base of club at 330 million gives the club the title of sport’s most valuable team.
Real Madrid increased the club's value by 29% to $1.877b and the club recorded the highest operating income of Forbes’ top 20, $214m, $36 m more than second-placed United.
Manchester United's early exit from the Champions League this season will close the gap further.
