England's loss could be the Olympics gain as Arsène Wenger laid the foundation that Jack Wilpshire may not be fit for the Euro 2012 tournament.
20 year old Wilshere would be an obvious choice for Team GB at the Olympics and has indicated in the past that he would relish the challenge.
Wenger said on Friday that for Wilshere to be fit for Euro 2012 he had to be "competitive" by the end of this month. Arsenal play Wolves on Wednesday and Wigan Athletic a week today, with it unlikely Wilshere will be ready.
Wilshere is developing into a quality young footballer, who needs to be protected but if sufficiently fit, then the Olympics could provide valuable international experience to push on next season.
