Wembley Stadium’s Services Director, Greg Gillin, will be presenting an exclusive insight to the ‘Wembley Pitch Experience’ at this year’s IOG Building Skills, Transforming Grounds Sports Turf Conference (Bolton’s Reebok Stadium, December 1).
His presentation is set to interest everyone who followed the trials and tribulations of the National Stadium’s playing surface and it will include details of how the problems were resolved, as well as highlighting the aims of the new National Football Centre currently under construction in Staffordshire.
Greg’s fascinating ‘Wembley pitch inside story’ is the latest exciting addition to the IOG Conference programme featuring some of the biggest names – and personalities – from the world of groundscare in the UK and North America.
The schedule includes a not-to-be-missed presentation by Eddie Seaward and Neil Stubley, Head Groundsman and Head Groundsman Designate, respectively, at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. They will discuss ‘SW19 and the Olympics – The Fifth Grand Slam’, providing delegates with an insight into what’s involved in staging an Olympic event.
Then there’s the ‘Four seasons rugby’ presentation – hear how Rugby League is set to transform the sport and the plans for enhancing playing surfaces.
Life as a groundsman at an independent college will also be covered by the intriguing ‘Going back to school’ session by Dave Roberts, Head Groundsman at Charterhouse School.
The ‘Prospects, pay and rewards’ in groundscare ‘turf ‘n’ omics’ presentation by consultant Steve Pheasant will no doubt strike a chord with everyone in the industry – while the descriptive ‘Year in the Life of a Volunteer’ session, by IOG Award winner Andy Spetch of Bury St Edmunds RFC, will reveal exactly what life is like at grassroots level.
Switching attention to the activities of trans-Atlantic groundscare, the ‘How to win the Superbowl’ presentation by the Green Bay Packers’ Allen Johnson, CSFM, is another not-to-be-missed session.
Combined with a study tour of the Reebok - the home of Bolton Wanderers FC – Grounds Manager Richard Norton will also discuss ‘A day in my life leading up to a Premier league fixture’.
To add to the once-in-a-lifetime event – which will be ‘hosted’ by leading sports presenter Mark Saggers of talkSPORT Radio and followed in the evening by prestigious IOG Industry Awards presentations where former professional cricketer and now Chairman of the ECB Selectors, Geoff Miller, will be providing the after-dinner entertainment – delegates will also have the opportunity, on Wednesday November 30, to tour Bolton Wanderers FC’s extensive training grounds.
