This week saw Valencia play out a credible draw against Chelsea with all eyes firmly fixed on their shirt sponsor.
Valencia had an array of kit suitors before the season kicked off including Kappa, Adidas and Joma but while a new sponsorship deal was done with Spanish giants Joma the club are still one of the nine clubs in the Spanish Primera without a shirt sponsor for the current season.
In the absence of a sponsor Valencia put their Twitter handle on the front of their shirts. Valencia wore the self-promotion in their match against Barcelona recently.
The club became the first top flight club to promote their Twitter account on their shirts . Valencia have approximately 36,000 followers.
In the current economic climate, now that the precedent has been set, it probably won't be long until a sponsor pays a club to put a Twitter handle on other club kits.
