Funds4Clubs, the scheme set up and run by MWR Solicitors to help sporting and community clubs raise money, has recently celebrated its first birthday.
It has been hailed as ‘the best thing they (the club) ever did’ by one of its beneficiaries and a ‘success’ by its organisers. The scheme has helped 18 clubs and societies since its launch. Clubs that have joined the scheme include: Walton Le Dale Primary School PTA; Hutton Priory Patchers; Fulwood & Broughton Cricket Club; Preston City Trampoline Club; Longridge Town Junior FC;Athertonm LRJ FC; Avenger Performing Arts; Lancon Junior FC; Bay Horse Football Club; Fishwick Rangers YDS; Friends of Brookfield (PTA); Scarisbrick AFC; Burnley Basketball Club; Blackburn Centurions Swimming Club, Springfields Hockey Club, Lytham St Anne’s YMCA FC, Lostock Hall Junior FC and Northwest Girl Guiding.
Preston Trampoline Club has received over £600 which has enabled young members to benefit from new throwing mats and team leotards. Angela Robson, Preston City Trampoline Club secretary, said: “As a club, the best thing we ever did was join Funds4Clubs. It is a unique scheme that is helping the local community engage young people in activities and competitive sports such as trampolining.
We are always looking for ways to boost our finances so we are very grateful for the investment and the interest and commitment Funds4Clubs has shown to us.” Funds4Clubs also supports Fishwick Rangers FC and has helped 120 young footballers through becoming the main sponsors of the Under 14 Pride of Preston Championship, a round robin tournament for under 12’s and under 14’s. Funds4Clubs will continue to support the football club and were recently delighted to be invited to the Fishwick Rangers annual awards ceremony.
The Funds4Clubs scheme is simple. If a club is registered with the scheme and one of its members uses MWR, the firm will make a donation to the club. The scheme was shortlisted for the professional services to sport category at the Inaugural MBNA Northern Sports Awards 2011
Funds4Clubs has also sponsored Preston City Indoor Games (run by Preston City Council), Lancashire FA Under 14 Youth Cup, the Wigan Warriors Community Foundation Festival of Rugby, Scarisbrick FA open day and inter-school primary school sports competitions (run by Preston City council.)
Altaf Patel, a partner at MWR, says thescheme has been a success to date.He said: “Community groups and clubs are constantly looking for new sources of funding and this is slowly but surely providing a solution for more and more clubs, which is what we set out to do.
“We piloted the scheme before officially launching it in 2010. It has been a successful first 12 months and through our own investment of money and time, we hope to add new members each month. Word is spreading and we are keen to help more.”
Head volunteer at Fishwick Rangers, Zul Hussain, said: “Without the support of companies like MWR Solicitors and its grassroots scheme, children from across the UK would not have the opportunity to compete in championships like the ones we arrange.”
