FIFA may have upset top-tier sponsor the Emirates with the debacle over appointing hosts for the up coming World Cup venues and has to decide one way or the other on whether to renew.
Emirates is the largest airline in the Middle East.
"Emirates has not yet commenced discussions with FIFA on the extension of our partnership agreement beyond 2014,” reads a Wednesday statement from the airline.
”Discussions will begin in due course."
The senior VP of the Emerates corporation communications commened in Australia
"We are seriously thinking about not renewing our partnership with FIFA beyond 2014," Boutrous Boutrous said.
The airline are concerned over the adverse publicity about extending its association with world football’s governing body in the aftermath of the cash-for-votes scandal that tarnished nearby Qatar’s selection as 2022 World Cup host.
The airline’s current deal with FIFA is worth $195 million and runs through the 2014 finals in Brazil.
