Margate Football Club’s Youth Section have attained the status of an FA Charter Standard Community Club. Plus the club and chairman Luigi Scott are nominated in the Thanet Sports Awards.
There are three levels of FA Charter Standard Awards for clubs to recognise the different standards. The entry level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Club’, the next level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Development Club’ and the most advanced ‘FA Charter Standard Community Club’. Each advanced level requires additional criteria to be met.
Youth Section Chairman Luigi Scott said: “The award represents the pinnacle of our achievement in the development of local talent and progression as a club.
“It recognises the standard we’ve achieved in our development and involvement within the community.
“We have been required to reach the highest standards in the provision of social, training and playing opportunities for local youngsters, as identified by the FA.”
Having achieved the FA Charter Standard in 2004, the club wanted to develop further and in 2007/08 achieved the Development Award.
“Since then, we have then been working behind the scenes to achieve the Community Award,” Luigi said.
Margate Football Club Chief Executive Cliff Egan said: “This is a marvellous achievement for the Youth Section of the football club. Luigi and his team have worked really hard to achieve the status of FA Community Club.
“Of course it matches the club’s overall objective to become more community based club in all that we do. Providing football opportunities for children of all ages is a big part of that.”
Plans are being made for the formal presentation of the award at the beginning of December.
