Bolton club could go out of business

Bolton club, Astley Bridge FC could be put out of business after thieves stole their lawnmowers and a line-marking machine.

The burglars cut through the one-and-a-half inch thick steel locks to break into a large metal container at the club pitches in Stapleton Avenue, Heaton and took a £3,000 industrial-size lawnmower, a smaller mower worth about £150 and a device used to mark the pitches with white lines.

Club boss Jimmy Donoghue said the theft could put them out of business as they cannot afford to pay someone else to cut the grass on their three pitches.

“The club’s just about surviving, and something like that could finish us off.

“I’m not criticising the council, but they charge about £1,500 for five cuts, and that’s a lot of money for us.”

Police have launched an investigation into the theft, which took place between 4.30pm on Friday and 9.30am Saturday anyone with information can call them on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111

If any club can help them please contact the Football Directory on 01254 677136 and will put you in touch with the club.
