Rangers chairman removed as Whyte exercises Ibrox power

Glasgow Rangers Football Club has removed chairman Alistair Johnston along with director Paul Murray, who fronted a rival bid to eventual successor Craig Whyte.

The two key figures have been joined by chief executive Martin Bain and finance director Donald McIntyre, who have been suspended whilst an internal enquiry occurs.

A brief statement on the club’s official site said:  "The board announces that on 23rd May 2011 Alastair Johnston and Paul Murray were removed as directors of The Rangers Football Club P.L.C."

Businessman Whyte completed his takeover earlier this month after over six months of negotiations, purchasing Sir David Murray's 85.3% shareholding whist Johnston was expected to resign on May 16th but stayed on whilst full details to shareholders of Whyte’s takeover became apparent.
