Wrexham Football Club has received a new takeover bid from former Premier League footballer Ashley Ward.
Ward, who played for a number of clubs including Manchester City, Leicester City, Norwich City, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers and Wrexham, has had talks with the Blue Square Bet Premier side’s owners along with his representatives.
Speaking to the club’s official site, Ward said: “It's very early days yet, my representatives are embarking upon the legal due diligence process and I anticipate being in a position to make a formal announcement shortly.
"We have had positive preliminary talks with the Supporters Trust and the local council, as we believe that each of these parties are instrumental to the future success of the club.
"It is also important that the ownership of the stadium remains in the hands of the club.
"I have also had it confirmed to me, by the current owners, that none of the other interested parties have a preferred bidder status.
"Geoff and Ian have publicly confirmed that they will continue to provide support to the club and ensure that it does not enter administration during the due diligence process."
Hotelier Stephanie Booth is the preferred bidder having received baking from the Supporters Trust and owners Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts.
