Ridsdale Plymouth takeover under investigation

Peter Ridsdale's £1 purchase of Plymouth Argyle is set to be investigated by private detectives after a rival bidder claimed that he was frozen out of talks to buy the club.

Ridsdale has been football consultant, chairman and chief executive of the Pilgrims in various roles at Home Park since the end of last year. The club appointed Brendan Guilfoyle as administrator in March and Guilfoyle retained the services of Ridsdale to run the football business.

Paul Buttivant was one of those who made a bid for the club but he has now called in Xfor, a private-security firm run by Parachute Regiment veterans, to investigate the circumstances which saw Ridsdale being named the preferred bidder for the crisis-stricken south coast club.

Speaking on guardian.co.uk Buttivant said: "Brendan Guilfoyle, Peter Ridsdale and Kevin Heaney should realise we are not going to go away," said Buttivant. "We call on the administrator to communicate with us about our open and transparent proposal."
