Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers could be set for a shock boardroom takeover on the eve of the new season.
A statement released on the West London club's official website revealed that the newly promoted side were almost taken over in March before negotiations broke down.
QPR's major shareholder Bernie Ecclestone owns 69 per cent of the Loftus Road club and had suggested in March that he would be willing to sell his shareholding for £100m.
This fresh development comes after the club announced that they were in "preliminary discussions with a different party".
Force India Formula 1 team owner Vijay Mallya - who is also chairman of United Breweries Group, which produces the Kingfisher beer brand, has previously been linked with the Loftus Road club.
