Manchester United have no immediate plans to launch an official Twitter site according to head of marketing Jonathan Rigby.
Rigby was speaking at last week's Marketing Week Live! when he outlined the club's current social media strategy. The Red Devils launched their official facebook page last July and already have almost 14 million 'likes', but United's marketing man admits that there are no current plans to carry sponsored links.
"We were late into social media and were worried a lot about how to approach it as a football club," Rigby said on marketingweek.co.uk.
"We don’t sell off Facebook and are resisting until we are satisfied it will not mess up the growth of the Facebook page. Our big concern is that if we get it wrong that the fanbase will stop growing.
"There will be no official Twitter site until we have satisfied ourselves that we have determined a role for Twitter."
