Huddersfield snap up Lindley in £10m deal

The Galpharm Stadium – home to Huddersfield Town FC and the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League Club, host to International Rugby League matches, and an established concert venue  – has appointed Lindley Venue Catering to manage all aspects of the match-day and non-match-day catering services at West Yorkshire’s, 51-acre community, sports, leisure and entertainment complex.

Key to the five-year, £10.3 million contract is taking the leading role in promoting and expanding usage of the multi-function site which was established in 1991 as a joint venture between a forward-thinking Huddersfield Town FC, Huddersfield Rugby League Club and Kirklees Metropolitan Council.

Lindley Venue Catering – a division of The Lindley Group - has been awarded the solus catering contract at The Galpharm Stadium after a very competitive tender.  The new contract commenced on July 1, 2011.

Commenting on the appointment of Lindley Venue Catering Gareth Davies, Managing Director of Kirklees Stadium Development Ltd, says:  "The choice of Lindley Venue Catering is a key strategic decision for us.  We want to achieve excellence in all that we do and in this regard, nothing is more important than the quality of the food and beverage and service that we offer to every single visitor to the Stadium, matchday and non-matchday.

"During the tender process, Lindley’s passionate focus on food and service and their attention to detail have been inspiring.  They already work with an array of major stadia and venues including Celtic, Manchester City, Tottenham, Warrington Wolves, Leicester Tigers and the Liverpool Echo Arena.  I have no doubt that together we’ll fine tune separate football, rugby and non-matchday offerings that match the best of these."

Adam Elliott, CEO of The Lindley Group, says:  "Having recently created Lindley Venue Catering as part of a strategic re-structure of our business, we’re thrilled to have been awarded the catering contract at The Galpharm Stadium. Whilst not only reinforcing our position as the leading sports stadia caterer, and adding to our growing list of rugby club venues – the fact that the stadium hosts both sports is an added bonus - this leading-edge stadium provides us with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate Lindley’s capabilities in more general leisure venue catering.

"Through our extensive concert experience and connections we will be in a position to work with The Galpharm as a top concert venue to ensure that it remains firmly on the map for headline acts, and we’ll be introducing a very proactive sales programme to maximise use of the venue for a variety of different events and occasions from tribute band gigs and business exhibitions to Christmas parties and weddings.

"On match-days we’ll be focusing on introducing more freshly cooked food, offering premium quality products, introducing a high street retail approach to the kiosks and making greater use of new technology both to communicate with match-goers and to enhance the service we provide to The Galpharm’s customers."

Each year the 24,500 capacity sports stadium is well utilised by the two home clubs, hosting 23 League matches for Huddersfield Town FC, 13 Rugby League league matches plus cup matches for both Clubs.  On match-days, Lindley Venue Catering will provide catering for over 800 covers, 42 luxury, corporate hospitality suites and 16 ‘retail’ kiosks at the ground.

Designed as a versatile sports, entertainment and hospitality complex which plays an integral role rooted within the local community as well as being a commercial venture, the 1995 RIBA Building Award of the Year winning site incorporates a range of facilities including: a purpose-built Business & Conference Centre; a 30-bay golf driving range, with professional teaching facilities and a 1,500 sq ft Golf Superstore; a 2,000-seat nine screen cinema; a Community Health & Leisure Pod; along with associated bar/restaurant/café facilities.  It also holds a civil wedding licence.

Outside the football and rugby seasons, the Galpharm Stadium, which is managed and operated by Kirklees Stadium Development Ltd, can be converted to a concert arena accommodating up to 40,000 concert goers, and a number of high profile rock and pop names have played at the venue including Elton John, REM, The Eagles, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams and Girls Aloud.

Hospitality packages for up to 1,000 guests are available for events and functions.
