Rovers chairman resigns

Blackburn Rovers Football Club has announced that chairman John Williams has left the club.

Williams, who joined the club as chief executive 1997 before becoming executive chairman in 2005, stated that ‘the time was right’ for him to move on.  It was thought Williams was disappointed with owners Venkys removing Sam Allardyce as manager last year.

In statement on the club’s official website, Williams said: "With our new owners the Venkys Group, I have no doubt this is a new dawn for the club. There is a new order, a new way of doing things and I believe the time is right for me now to move on.

"I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Club, its owners, management, players, employees and supporters all the very best for the future."

The club has not revealed when a new chairman will be appointed.
