Accrington Stanley Football Club has begun work to extend the Crown Ground’s capacity to 5,000 in order to comply with Football League rules.
The club expects the work on the Coppice End of the ground to be complete for its next home game on February 12th. The npower League Two side has had special dispensation concerning the regulation from the Football League since 2006.
Commenting on the expansion, Stanley chief executive Rob Heys was keen to praise the Football League for its understanding.
"I’m delighted that we we are now days away from confirming that the work is done," Heys said.
"Special thanks must go to the Football League as there have been a few delays due to the weather, but they have been very accommodating and I must also mention our associate director Bill Holden at the club who was worked tirelessly to make sure all the preparation work was completed in time, the work he puts in literally saves us tens of thousands of pounds and without him we wouldn't have got everything done."
