As part of its ongoing growth, sports surface specialist total-play Ltd has appointed James Coney as Project Development Manager to help drive forward the company’s expansion. James brings to the table extensive experience in the sports surface sector; making him a valuable addition to total-play’s established team.
Prior to taking up his new role, James worked as Business Development Manager for a leading UK sports turf contractor, where he was responsible for generating viable leads for both natural and artificial projects across the UK. The position saw him work closely with main contractors, specialist sports consultants, local authorities, independent schools and end users to deliver a diverse range of projects.
James’ career has also spanned project management, both of on-site works and in terms of overseeing the relocation of sports facilities, securing grant funding, carrying out feasibility studies and securing planning permission. He has also worked in the public sector; setting up coaching schemes, social inclusion initiatives and helping to secure both revenue and capital funding for sports development at Eastleigh and Havant Borough Councils.
James’ breadth of experience makes him ideally placed to take up the newly created role at total-play, as the company’s MD, David Bates, explains: "As total-play has grown, a distinct space in the team has opened for someone to help develop links and co-ordinate projects; liaising with all parties to ensure a successful completion. James fits the bill perfectly - his understanding of all aspects of sports surface development, from design to construction, stand him in excellent stead, whilst his knowledge of the funding process is a valuable asset for those organisations in need of additional resource. We’ve big plans to continue our growth in the natural and artificial sports surface sector, and James’ skills mean he’s perfectly suited to supporting both existing and new clients."
When he’s not busy working to help organisations find the ideal sports surface to suit their requirements, James’ spare time is still very much occupied by sport in his roles as Head Coach at Andover Athletic Club and coach to a group of speed-based athletes competing on a local, regional and national level.
