Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline and the UK’s Number One Domestic carrier has today announced a two-year shirt sponsorship deal of Newquay A.F.C. that reflects Flybe’s recognition of the importance of sport in the community and its continued commitment to Cornwall.
Simon Lilley, Flybe’s Director of Marketing unveiled the new strip during a signing ceremony with the team’s Chairman, Peter Butterly at the airliine’s Exeter headquarters where they were joined by Manager Glynn Hooper, and Paul Hampshire and Sean Middleton, captain and vice-captain respectively.
The shirt sponsorship of Newquay FCs First team football strip is enhanced by brand new perimeter boards at their home ground in Clevedon Road. In addition, Flybe aims to assist the Club’s fundraising through its long-standing relationship with and support from Matt Le Tissier, ex England international player and Sky Sports’ pundit, who is expected to make guest appearances at various Club events throughout the duration of the partnership.
Flybe has established a strong reputation as a regional football sponsor, having been Exeter City Football Club’s main shirt sponsor since 2003 through its rise from Football Conference to an established League One club, and this season has extended a sponsorship with Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The airline also previously sponsored Birmingham City, Norwich City and Southampton F.Cs.
Mr Lilley said: "Having sponsored clubs from the Premier League to non-league, and grown Flybe into an international brand, we equally understand the importance and focus of supporting the communities we serve. Newquay AFC is at the heart of its local community. Its history and depth of work from grass roots to the first team allows us to bring benefits to the club in many ways and we are therefore privileged to be sponsoring the club as it begins the 2011-12 season."
Newquay AFC General Manager Trevor Mewton, who has returned to the Club after an absence of 22 years, commented that the Club was honoured to have been given the opportunity to have Flybe as its main sponsor for the next two years and is proud to have its logo on the first team shirts and on some of its youth team apparel, "a very important part of the Club's infrastructure".
He added: "With Flybe’s help we have a great opportunity to move forward and we are all very excited too at the shared vision of promoting youth football in Cornwall."
Concludes Mr Lilley: "The recent announcement of Flybe’s new route from Newquay to Manchester, the success of our London Gatwick route and today’s announcement is testament of our commitment to Cornwall and South West Peninsula. The Flybe Cornwall Travel Bursary competition we ran earlier this year was extremely well received and so we are now proud to have this new opportunity to establish a relationship with Newquay FC and their supporters. We would like to hope that, with the added profile of the Flybe brand, the next two years will prove its most rewarding and successful yet."
Flybe operates up to 44 flights a week on its popular year-round London Gatwick service; up to 12 flights a week on its summer service to Edinburgh, and last week announced it will fly a four-times weekly service year-round to Manchester from October 30th.
