Club Rise From the Ashes

Football News 24/7
AFC Rushden & Diamonds once of the Football League are back in action as a league club, albeit a few rungs down from the heady heights of the Football League and The Blue Square Conference Prem.

The 2011 Rushden took on Daventry Town in the Northants Senior Youth League at Kiln Park, Raunds on Friday night (25th August)

The club's technical director Steve Whitney, said: “I thought after all the years I have been involved as a player, manager and coach etc., that I had seen most things. But even a crusty old bloke like me is really, really excited about tonight!

“The lads involved in setting the club up who, remember, just a few weeks ago were simply young fans who stood on the terraces supporting their beloved Rushden & Diamonds, have worked terrifically hard and although still very naïve in the ways of running a football club, have overcome that with sheer enthusiam and endeavor.

“They deserve a great night.”

The club are also delighted to announce that the shirt sponsors for the season 2011/12 are Playfish - an EA Sports-owned company.

Former Rushden & Diamonds favourite, Lee Tomlin, who is in such great form for Peterborough United in the npower Championship, was the club`s guest of honour.
