Wrexham Supporters’ Trust (WST) has outlined its intentions to purchase financially troubled Wrexham Football Club in a bid which will involve private investors and supporters.
The proposed scheme will see WST acquire Wrexham FC (2006) Ltd which includes the club, the Racecourse ground and Collier’s Park.
WST would initially look for private backers to help buy the company then conduct a share issue to fans to raise around £1m which is needed to sustain the Blue Square Bet Premier side.
WST is hoping that the move will help Wrexham FC (2006) Ltd gain adjournment against a winding up order from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, which is due to be heard on May 11th.
In a statement on the WST site chairman of Wrexham Supporters’ Trust Richard Owen warned that ‘it is now or never for local businesses and supporters to dig deep to save Wrexham Football Club’.
Hotelier Stephanie Booth is currently the preferred bidder for the club whilst former footballer Ashley Ward also declared his interest.
