Who will be the next FA chairman?

align=justify>The search for the next Football Association chairman has begun with some key figures in football being touted to succeed Lord Triesman.

Manchester United chief executive David Gill, British Airways chairman Martin Broughton, the current Liverpool chairman, and former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry have been linked to the post as well as Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy and entrepreneur Sir Alan Sugar.

The process began following an extraordinary general meeting on Wednesday which saw the rule requiring candidates to be free of ties to a club or a league for a year prior to taking the job eradicated, which paves the way for United chief executive Gill to be put forward for the role.

The meeting also allowed FA head hunters to start work on a list of candidates, which is fed to an independent nominations committee before they in turn report to the FA board.

However the FA has taken the decision until the announcement of the 2018 World Cup host is made on the 2nd December in order to avoid any risk of damaging the England 2018 bid.
