Wound up Ilkeston Town is celebrating after being bought by Nottinghamshire based SR Education.
The club was forced into liquidation in September over failure to pay a £50,000 HMRC debt. Four parties made a bid for the lease on the New Manor Ground, existing plant and equipment and other assets however liquidator Dean Nelson decided that SR Education were in the best position to have an offer accepted.
Speaking of his decision Dean said: “SR Education submitted a robust commercial business plan which detailed its vision and ambitions for the new club”
The new owners are now keen to restore Ilkeston as a Blue Square Bet North Club. Dave Mantle, one of the main men behind SR Education’s bid, is however mindful of the “massive challenge” they have undertaken but says he is “confident” Ilkeston can return to the Blue Square Bet North league within five years.
Central to SR Education’s plans will be the movement of the company to the New Manor Ground which will generate a potential £200,000 a year for the club, through investment.
Dave explains: “We believe that will cover all the major overheads- including non- player staff salaries and all apprenticeship scheme costs- and in simple terms, it will mean that gate receipts and all money raised through commercial activities will go to make up the playing budget.”
