Deutsche Bahn AG has joined Deutsche Post, Deutsche Telekom, Commerzbank, Allianz and Rewe as a national sponsor of the Fifa Women's World Cup 2011 in Germany in a deal worth just under £3.5 million.
Deutsche Bahn become the final sponsor of the tournament and will offer transport logistical advice to the local organising committee as well as sponsorship. It will also support a range of events around the tournament aimed at involving young people in soccer.
"Our teamwork with Deutsche Bahn is the perfect connection. A global event such as the World Cup, with its exceptionally heavy demands in the area of transportation, is hardly imaginable without the railway network as a provider of mobility and logistic services. Furthermore, the support of Deutsche Bahn as an internationally renowned business will contribute to women’s football growing in significance both at home and abroad."
Ms Jones also spoke of the local organising committee's delight at having completed its line-up of national sponsors 18 months before the start of the tournament, saying the feat provided "yet more evidence of the appeal of women’s football in general, and the exceptionally high expectations relating to the first FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany."
