Scottish Football League side Elgin City have been left in crisis with the club needing to find £20,000 after a main sponsorship deal fell through.
The club now plans to follow the lead of many clubs in holding a raffle with hopes that 40 local businesses will pay £500 for the chance to be the club's main shirt sponsor for the new season. There are second and third prizes up for grabs with back of the shirt and shorts sponsorship, and other player sponsorship and hospitality packages.
Chairman Graham Tatters told The Northern Scot: “We thought we had a main sponsor tied up, but that fell through 10 days ago.
"We cannot be another Crystal Palace or Portsmouth. We have got to live within our means and you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
"I would imagine every single club in the third division is in the same boat and are all facing similar problems.
"It is hard work at the moment, but everybody is pulling together. Lots of good people are supporting us but we could do with some fresh blood.”
