McCoist set to open leisure centre named after him

Former Rangers player and current assistant manager Ally McCoist is set to open a new £3.5m sports centre named after him in East Kilbride.

McCoist, who scored more than 350 goals for Rangers and was capped 61 times by Scotland, will formally open the centre, to be known as the Alistair McCoist Leisure Centre. It will feature eight indoor courts, an outdoor 3G five-a-side pitch, a community room and changing areas, and has been funded by South Lanarkshire Council.

McCoist lived in East Kilbride both as a child and, for many years, as a player, during a career that spanned more than 20 years, with 15 of them spent at Ibrox. he won the Scottish title ten times as a player with Rangers.

The former striker returned to Ibrox in 2007 as assistant manager to Walter Smith, and ran the team during its successful 2008 Scottish Cup campaign.
