Bala Town face a race against time to complete essential upgrades to their Maes Tegid ground to qualify for the FAW’s new domestic licence, an essential pre-requisite for a place in next season’s slimmed-down Welsh Premier League.
The Lakesiders were the main beneficiaries from Welsh Ground Improvements’ latest round of funding awards, receiving a grant of £91,000.
But they need to complete all the necessary work before the March 31 deadline and general manager Nigel Aykroyd admits to having doubts about whether this is achievable:
“We have had significant funding which should enable us to complete the necessary work to qualify for the domestic licence,” he said.
“To complete everything, I think it would be unlikely.”
WGI delayed the award of grants by two months after setting an initial deadline of October 31 for the receipt of applications, which has left several clubs up against the clock to complete improvements.
