Sponsorship deals defy economic climate

Sponsorship within sport increased in 2009 despite the current economic climate, according to The World Sponsorship Monitor Annual Review.

The report, produced by IFM Sports Marketing Surveys, showed that with the number of deals increasing year-on-year, with reported sponsorship deals in the sports market rose 15 per cent in 2009 compared to 2008 whilst the number of withdrawals remained stable at 8 per cent..

“Sponsorship as a marketing discipline gives an excellent return on investment. Both rights holders and sponsors are working together more to maximise this return – the figures in the TWSM annual review are very encouraging for the future,” said Nigel Geach, director of IFM Sports Marketing Surveys.
