Manchester United Football Club had denied it is for sale amid speculation of a £1.5bn takeover bid from Qatar Holdings.
The company, whose chief executive and chairman Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani, is Qatar’s prime minister have become the latest to be linked with taking over from the Glazer family.
But the club has moved quickly to deny the latest link to the club. Communications director Phil Townsend said: “There is nothing in this. The club have had no approach at all and it is not for sale.”
The news follows Barcelona's record £125m five year sponsorship with the Qatar Foundation, the first ever commercial shirt deal for the La Liga side.
