Council consider Whitehawk ground request

Councillors are considering a request from Whitehawk Football Club that would see the Ryman League Division One South club move to Brighton Hove Albion’s Withdean Stadium.

Brighton Hove Albion is set to move to the Amex Community Stadium next June, leaving current home Withdean empty.

Whitehawk need to find a new home or make improvements to their regular ground at East Brighton Park after being promoted to the Ryman League Division One South.

A decision on the proposal is expected to be made on 7th December and would be dependent on securing funding and planning permission.

Speaking of the club’s plans Councillor Smith said:  “In principle we want to support Whitehawk in the same way we supported the Albion.  So I’m giving it careful thought.

“It seems to make sense to try to keep permanently the many improvements given temporary permission.  The car park would help stop parking spilling over into residential streets on busy days.”
