Atherstone Town Football Club has announced that it will resign from the Zamaretto League and join the Midland Football Alliance at the end of the current season.
The decision will see the club drop from Level 8 to 9 in the English Football League System. A statement on the club’s website said: "Unfortunately, current economic circumstances mean that we are unable to continue with the level of costs required to maintain a football club at this level.
"In terms of non-debt, we are in a comfortable position, but our capacity to raise income is very limited. When our finances permit and fortune favours us on the pitch, we also hope one day to make a return."
The club was formed in 2004 following the liquidation of Atherstone United.
